Philanthropic Work Initiated by Betsy DeVos

Several months ago, Betsy DeVos began her new role as the secretary in charge of education for Donald Trump’s government. Having previously engaged in Republican politics, and the activist role she had played for a long time advocating for equal opportunities for all students to receive good education, she was in a better position to continue with her work while serving in the government. Betsy’ family, especially her father and brother are also recognized for their philanthropic activities, particularly through Family Research Council and BlackWater USA. She is married to Dick DeVos, who is from a Michigan-based conservative philanthropist family.

Betsy DeVos pursued her education at Calvin College, where she earned her undergraduate degree in business and political science. Her involvement in politics dates back in 1976, when she a presidential campaigner for Gerald Ford. Previously, Mrs. DeVos served as the char of the Windquest Group, a privately owned company founded in 1989,that invested in the manufacturing, marketing and technology sectors. She was also involved in the leadership of a family foundation she started with her husband. The foundation aims to cultivate change in five areas, giving priority to education. Betsy was politically involved in Michigan’s Republican Party politics, serving various positions including the chairperson from 1996-2000, and then in 2003.

Charitable Organizations Created by Betsy DeVos

When Mrs. DeVos and her group tried unsuccessfully to amend the constitution of Michigan that would have allowed vouchers or tax credit scholarships, they decided to form Great Lakes Education Project. The organization focused on expanding charter school programs across the state. The PAC pushed for legislation reform and other initiatives like lobbying, endorsements, supporting reform-oriented candidates and public awareness campaigns. In 2003, Mrs. DeVos was also involved in the formation of All Children Matter, an advocacy group that pushed for quality choices for all students in Michigan attending public schools. The mission of this organization aimed to empower parents when choosing public schools to send their children in order to improve their performance.

Another charitable organization launched by DeVos is American Federation for Children (AFC). It was founded in 2010 as a national advocacy group to support school choice, voucher programs and scholarships through tax credit. This organization is an affiliate of Alliance for School Choice. The organization has tried to push legislation of states laws to allow introduction vouchers and school choice programs.

Betsy DeVos’ Early Life

Betsy DeVos’ interest in education was sparked by her mother several years ago when she was growing up. She was also encouraged by leaders who worked very hard to increase opportunities for students to receive education and providing more choices for parents. These incidences played critical role of changing DeVos’ perspective about the need to receive education.

Daniel Taub’s Unique Diplomatic Leadership for the State of Israel

He may not look it, but Diplomat Daniel Taub is actually a native British Orthodox Jew. However, less than three decades ago, he gave up his citizenship to Britain to settle into the State of Israel.

It was when he met with the Queen of England in 2011 that he announced that he had become the New Ambassador to the State of Israel in the Court of St. James. At that time, he no longer looked Orthodox with his hair freshly cut.

When the Queen asked him how he felt representing the Jewish historic country, Taub replied that he felt high privileged. He stated that he also felt very privileged to be raising his children in the historic homeland and that he hopes to bring Britain and Israel closer together.

A feeling of that connection being bridged was reported to be felt by the Jewish community in Britain four years later. Not just by the Jewish community, either. Taub has also appeared on shows like Today and Newsnight to make the case for strong British relations to the State of Israel.

In particular, Daniel Taub is known for his ability for putting his personal views aside in favor of the population of the State of Israel. When asked by the London embassy how he manages to do it so easily, Taub replied that he doesn’t think of the question in terms of differing opinions but rather in terms of meeting the goal of the common understanding.

As far as the ISIS issue in the mid-east is concerned, Taub does acknowledge the turmoil. However, his focus is on how it affects the State of Israel rather than trying to help take control of ISIS’ effect on the mid-east itself. Instead, he focuses on the positives of alignments with several other countries, such as the peace agreements with Egypt and Jordan.

He is particularly interested in trying to re-establish the foundations between the British and the Israel Labor Parties. He reports that progressive values, such as equal opportunities, are very strong in Israel at this time.

Overall, Taub does not think of himself as an ambassador to the Jewish community in general, but only to the St. James Court.
