Robert A. Ivy carries the honorary title of Fellow, American Institute of Architects. Mr. Ivy has a Master of Architect from Tulane University and a Bachelor’s of Art degree in English from Sewanee, Tennessee University of the South. He also graduated as cum laude from University of the South. Mr. Ivy is currently the Executive Vice President and CEO of the National American Institute of Architects, headquartered in Washington, D.C.
Before Ivy joined the American Institute of Architects, he worked at McGraw-Hill Construction in different management positions. Robert Ivy served as the Vice President and Editorial Director of McGraw-Hill Construction Media, including the Editor-in-Chief of the Architectural Record Magazine. Mr. Ivy brought many worldwide journalistic honors and awards to the Architectural Record Magazine for both its online presence and the magazine’s print circulations.
Mr. Ivy believes that the architectural field is the catalyst to improve the health of the public through its planning and designing in the use of safer materials, construction research, community planning, and incorporating digital or software mapping. In addition to the National American Institute of Architects, Robert Ivy is a member of the International Circle of Architecture Critics. Robert Ivy is also best known as the author of “Fay Jones: Architect” which is used in classrooms and lecture halls all around the globe. Added acclaims include the 2009 G. D Crain Award and the 2010 Alpha Rho Chi “Master Architect” award. His many accomplishments involve several terms as the U.S. Commissioner at the Venice Architecture Biennale, on the advisory boards of the Universities of Tulane, Mississippi State, Auburn, Tongji, and China’s Urban Planning.
He is also a member of China’s Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia. Robert A. Ivy is an active member of The World Architecture Festival. In November 2017, he was appointed the Super Jury Chairman to decide winners in 31 different architectural categories from global entrants. Mr. Ivy is also a sought-after orator who has given many national and international architectural keynote addresses.
